Awards

On Tuesday afternoon I received a call from the elementary school principal saying that Larissa had been selected by the 1st grade teachers to receive the Principal's Award.  He said the award is given to one child per grade and the teachers select the student who is doing well academically, a good example to their peers, and is just an all around good person!!!

On Wednesday, the day of the award ceremony, Brent and I were waiting in the cafeteria for the students to come in.  Larissa had no idea she was receiving an award or that we would be there.  The look on her face as she turned the corner and saw us sitting there was priceless.
"What are you doing here Mom & Dad?"

Even after seeing us she had no clue why we were there.
Still wondering what we are doing there and why I have my camera.

The first award given was for being a "Bucket Filler" AKA good citizenship.  Larissa was so funny because she apparently was not expecting any awards.  When her name was called she just sat with her friends giggling and asking them if she was supposed to go up to the front of the auditorium.

After bucket filler was for all A Honor Roll.  Larissa's first report card had nothing lower than a 95 on it.
All A Honor Roll Award.
After the honor roll awards it was time for the Principals Award.

To say that Brent and I are proud of her is an understatement.  She received every award they handed out except for perfect attendance and that was because she was sick with a fever on the second day of school.  Not too shabby that she earned all these awards for only being at the school for a couple of months.

When she came home from school she couldn't wait to call Grandma Cheryl and tell her all about it.  Her and Grandma Cheryl talk after school almost daily.  Larissa comes in the house, washes her hands, and asks me for my phone so she can tell Grandma all about her day.  The pictures below are the ones Larissa specifically asked me to take so I could email them to Grandma Cheryl.
What the awards look like.  I love that they are not those ugly paper certificates.  The kids get a chain to collect their awards on throughout the years.

It sure is fun to see your kids get awards. Out of the 25 or so in the class it's a proud moment when your child is the one called, and especially out of the whole grade.
