2-Years Later

August 9th was our 2-year anniversary here in San Antonio.  I honestly can't believe that we have been here that long already!!!  The kids are getting ready to start their 3rd year of school here!!!

A family member asked me on Facebook last week if we were happy with our decision to move to Texas and what were the pros and cons of our decision.  The question really made me stop and think and I thought it would be neat to journal it so I could look back on it 5, 10, 20-years from now.

Are we happy with our decision to leave Southern California and come to San Antonio?
-Yes we are very happy with our decision to move to San Antonio.  It was a very scary and life changing choice but thankfully it turns out that it was a good one.  When we decided to move we basically held our breath, crossed our fingers, and walked away from everything that we knew.  It was a huge leap of faith.

What are the pros of our move?
-The quality of life here is just better.  It is really hard to pinpoint it or put it in to words but things are just better here.  Living in a military town you meet a lot of people who have moved here from other places all over the country and 99% of them will say the same thing... life is just better here.  The pace is slower, people are more kind, you get that "southern hospitality".  We love that there is zero smog.  We love having seasons and changes in the weather (when we are not in a drought).  I love that the kids are getting a far better education than what they were getting in SoCal.  San Antonio is beautiful.

What are the cons of our move?
-The number one con of our move is leaving a huge chunk of Brent's family behind.  We really miss seeing all of them and all of the family gatherings.  Phone calls and Skype are nice but it just isn't the same.  We also really miss Disneyland.  Those of you who know us well know that we spent A LOT of time at Disneyland and are huge Disney fans.  Disneyland was a big part of our every day lives.  The kids and I still feel home sickness pangs when we think of Disney.  The other thing that is hard was leaving the only place we ever really knew.  Brent was born and raised in SoCal and all 4 kids were born in SoCal.  The familiarity of it all is sad to leave.

I also won't lie and say that the adjustment to a whole new life wasn't hard.  About our 4th month here in San Antonio Brent, my mom, and myself went through a little bit of depression and severe home sickness.  It lasted a good month or more.  There were times where I questioned our decision to move and was ready to pack everything back up and head "home".  Thankfully Brent was like a rock and kept the faith and knew this was the right choice for our family and talked me down from my emotional melt downs.  After our 9th month here though I had settled down and no longer felt like home was back in California.

So 2-years later we are settled and happy.  The kids think of San Antonio as our home, love school, and have lots of friends.  They are involved in softball, Girls Scouts, Boy Scouts, and piano.  Brent is very happy with his job at Dr. Pepper/Snapple and we really couldn't ask for a better company for him to work for.

this was nice to read. I'm glad that after being there you feel it was a good move/choice for your family.
In a way I am a bit jealous.
