Our Vacation

Our family has never taken a true family vacation before. Sure we take lots of weekend trips but never a full weeks vacation.

Our family outside the Lodge in Utah.

We left Sunday afternoon to head to our family reunion on my mom's side of the family in Utah. We stopped for the night in Mesquite Nevada. Talk about some cheap, clean hotel rooms. We had more bodies then beds so we made Rissa a bed out of the chairs.

We got up early Monday morning and drove through Zion National Park. What an absolutely gorgeous place, it is breath taking. As we were winding through the park we saw this Big Horned Sheep just a couple feet off the road, he was kind enough to pose for us.

The Kerr family reunion was just just 1 mile outside of Zion National Park at Clear Creek Family Ranch. We had 50 people there and everyone stayed in a 10 bedroom, 9 bathroom lodge, it was beautiful. It was nice having everyone under one roof. On Tuesday a large group of us went back into Zion to do some hiking. Spencer knew of a trail called The Narrows where part of the hike is in a narrow canyon where the Virgin River winds through.

Here is our group hiking through The Narrows & the Virgin River.

Here is our family picture! Brent and I made the shirts!

On Wednesday we packed up and headed to Wahweap Marina at Lake Powell. We were all very excited to go there and what made it even better is that our good friends the Young's were going to be there with us.

To save money we decided to camp at Lake Powell, this was my families first experience with camping. The three older kids and Brent were in a tent with Poppy and I had the luxury of staying in my sister (Tahnee) and brother-in-law's (Spencer) 5th wheel with the rest of our family. Having an A/C at night and a TV/DVD player was great! Thanks Tahnee and Spencer!!!Wednesday night we went in to Page to buy groceries and ate at the best little Mexican restaurant I have ever been too called Fiesta Mexicana.

Thursday the boys (Brent, Spencer, Don, & Don's friend Jason) got up at 5:30 a.m. and wakeboarded while the rest of us slept in a little. All of us were on the lake by 9:30 and we decided to head up to Rainbow Bridge which is an 80 mile round trip by boat. The boat ride was beautiful to say the least. On the way back to the marina a big storm blew in. The wind was blowing, there was lightening, and rain hurt when it hit you and of course there were big waves, big enough to be ocean waves, it was fun though. This is how Brent kept the rain out of his eyes so he could see. After the storm blew in the water was too rough to play on so we called it a day.

On Friday my Aunt Sara, Uncle Justin, and their 4 kids joined us - making 21 people. They are so much fun to hang out with and 3 of their kids are my kids age so they fit in great with us and the Young's, it was kids everywhere. We found a nice red sand beach and spent the day lounging around and taking people wakeboarding. It was great because all the kids got up on the wakeboard, even the youngest one, my cousin Sadie - with a little help from Brent. Of course no vacation can be complete without some sort of crisis. Brent had just finished taking Sadie and Eli Young wakeboarding and was still in the water. Don was putting the wakeboard away in the rack and the wakeboard slipped and fell about 7' on Brent's head. The wakeboard split Brent's scalp right open so Uncle Justin took Brent to the ER where he had to get 7 stitches. Don felt so bad but it was a complete accident and something we will laugh about in the years to come. The funny part is Seth fell off their bed and split his head open at their house 4 years ago, he needed 6 staples - us Boring's need to watch our heads when we are with them. Brent was excited because now he will have "a cool scar"... weirdo

Seconds after the wakeboard hit his head.

Friday night the Young's had to go home and Saturday morning my aunt & uncle left so it was just us all day. We took a tour of Glen Canyon Dam which was very neat. It was cool learning about how the whole thing works and the history of it.

After our dam trip we took the boat out to go exploring. Brent couldn't get his head wet and everyone else was sore from two days of wakeboarding so we just decided to cruise. Poppy wanted to check out Navajo Canyon so off we went. The canyon is pretty narrow in most spots and the canyon walls are about 150 feet straight up. It made for some stunning sights. We found a wide spot in the canyon and everyone, but Brent, jumped out and swam.

We couldn't keep Larissa in the boat, anytime the boat stopped she was jumping off the back.

Those little dots right above the water in the middle of the picture are our heads, that is how enormous the canyon walls are. In that crack was a little cave that 5 adults could easily fit in to.

We actually ended exploring Navajo Canyon a little too far and we got a little worried that we wouldn't have enough gas to make it back to the marina. We did run out of gas but thankfully it was as we were putting the boat on the trailer so Brent had to do it with only one engine.

Sunday we got up early and hit the road to head back home. That drive felt like the longest drive ever. With stops it took us 10 hours!

We had a wonderful time at the family reunion and a wonderful time at Lake Powell, I wish we would have gone there sooner and not when we are moving so far away from it. That whole part of the country though really is magnificent.
