Flutist

In 6th grade in Shiner all the kids are required to play a musical instrument for one year.  I thought this was a great opportunity, Kirstine was not at all happy.  Kirstine and her band teacher decided that the flute was the best fit for her.  At the beginning of the year Kirstine really struggled learning how to play her instrument and did not like having to perform in front of the other students for testing.  By about the middle of the school year she decided it wasn't so bad.  Over the last couple of months she has enjoyed it so much that she has decided to take band as one of her electives for 7th grade in Jr. High.

Last Saturday was a big band competition for the area.  This was Kirstine's only competition all year and she was nervous.  She was in an ensemble of 4 and she knew that if she made a mistake or didn't know her music is would be very obvious to the rest of her ensemble and the judges.  I was so happy for her and proud when she came home with a first place medal for their ensemble.

Kirstine has now asked us to purchase her own flute for her upcoming Jr. High and High School years.  I am so happy she has found something she enjoys.  Moving to Texas and even more so moving to Shiner has really made her blossom, she also plans on playing tennis and basketball in Jr. High as well.
