Brent & I are very proud parents, well we always are but right now we have something to be exceptionally proud of!!!
Hannah is a part of a very large softball organization out of the Austin, Texas area. There are 20 or so teams in the organization ranging in age from 8's to 18's. In November the Blaze organization announced that they were going to hold try-outs for a 14U national team to go along with their 16U and 18U national teams. The national teams take the best of the best from the organization to form an elite team. These elite teams travel a fair amount in the country and the advantage to being on a national team is far more exposure to college scouts. College recruiting now begins in 8th grade for softball!!! Unbelievable!
Hannah was very excited to try-out for the 14U national team but cautiously optimistic. The competition was high and Hannah felt she had a weak try-out. A couple weeks later Brent received an email saying that Hannah had been selected to another try-out. They had narrowed the 55 to 60 girls down to 20 but needed to cut a few more. In December Hannah went and had a very rigorous practice/try-out up in Austin. Then we heard nothing for over a month!!! Finally yesterday the final roster was published and Hannah made the team along with 3 of her other teammates from her regular Blaze team!!!
Hannah will be playing for both Blaze teams so this means a VERY busy schedule for her between February and August 1st. I looked at her schedule for July and she will be home a total of 11-days! She couldn't be more happy though. All her hard work is paying off. She is doing something that she loves, and she gets to spend her time with good friends that share the same interests and goals as she does. People will ask Hannah if she ever gets tired of softball and she scoffs at them and says, "Ah no!"
For sure Hannah will be going to Denver and Atlanta this summer. In addition to those there is an opportunity for her on the schedule to go to Illinois and Southern California. That also doesn't include trips around the very large state of Texas and possibly neighboring states. This type of spring and summer schedule is just a glimpse of things to come as she gets older and she gets closer to hopefully realizing her goal of playing softball in college!
